On Friday 17th September 2021, I attended my husband’s cousin’s wedding. The church function was at 8am at Rubaga Cathedral and it ended at 10:20am. Immediately after the church service we proceeded to the reception venue somewhere in Entebbe along the shores of Lake Victoria. The reception started at 12pm. To say that the reception was well attended is an understatement. There were over 500 guests!

When we got to the speech’s time, speaker after speaker praised the groom and spoke about how well the groom had stood by them at their worst moments. One of them mentioned that the groom had paid for his wife’s medical bills. His boss’s boss also spoke well of the young man.

Later, we learnt that on the first wedding meeting, 200m was received in cash from his friends. (3 wedding meetings were held in total). The groom was thoughtful and had proactively booked all the rooms at the nearby two hotels for any guests who wished to sleep over.

I picked a few lessons and action points for myself, and these are to genuinely love people, be present in their lives, to be intentional about commitments and relationships, share world resources with others and be practical in caring for others.
